Prey

I just finished this first person shooter game, Prey. It was pretty long but the puzzles and variety compensate. First it's kinda disgusting with all those living things: living walls, living weapons, living grenades and so on but you get used. The graphics are good, too good for my geforce 6200, (I'm getting a 7900 GT next week by the way :P ) but I played the game with most of the video options on the lowest settings for a decent frame rate. The game has some innovative things and it's more than just a Doom 3 clone. It has the wall walks, portals, gravity change (which is pretty much the same thing with wall walks but not exactly), spirit walk and last but not least the atmosphere. The wall walks are some paths and if activated you can walk on them even if they're going on the celling you can't fall. The portals are holes which teleport you to certain places and this is where many enemies come from. The spirit walk is kind of a dumb because being a spirit you should be able to go anywhere and you could not possibly DIE. Yes, that's right, in this game your spirit dies and goes to a place where some deviltry things fly to you and then you're back to life and continue to shoot the aliens from where you died. At least I'm glad you can't die again at that spirit land (stupid face).

Gaining the spirit walk power has one other benefit: When you die, you'll be sent directly to the spirit realm instead of to a game-over screen. This is essentially a basic minigame where you must fire the spirit bow at red and blue wraiths to recharge your health and spirit energy, respectively. After doing that for 15 to 20 seconds, you're sent back into the world of the living, right where you left off. This makes death trivial and removes any remaining difficulty you might encounter. In some ways, this method seems designed to remove the desire to constantly use quick saves and quick loads to inch through the game's 8- to 12-hour single-player campaign.

As I said, the spirit can't go anywhere, it can go only on special transparent white things or through transparent walls, it can't go through walls which I think is stupid. The atmosphere is given by the details in the bar before the alien abduction (you can even play some games, it's like a game inside a game, and watch TV) and by all the details and the radio news on the alien planet or whatever is that about many people being abducted from Earth . Trying to save Jen, Tommy's girlfriend, you have to fight against the aliens which captured humans from Earth for experiments, or as they say at the end of the game their 'harvest'. You play as Tommy and on the way saving Jen you'll find some insane and almost naked people, abducted from Earth, to which you can't talk and I think through all the game only one person talked to me. Maybe they were terrorized by aliens for too long.

There are many things to say about Prey but I think I talked about the most important things and I add the story of the game from the review on gamespot because mine is messed up.

Prey opens with the main character yelling at himself in a bathroom mirror. Tommy, a Cherokee Indian, doesn't really care about his heritage and wants to take his girlfriend, Jen, and leave the reservation. But before he can muster up the courage to convince her to leave (and just after he bashes in the skulls of a couple of morons causing trouble in her bar), an alien invasion sucks Tommy, his grandfather, and Jen up into some sort of spacecraft. With the help of some unknown benefactors, Tommy manages to get free and you set out on your quest to rescue your girlfriend and, of course, save Earth in the process. There are a few plot twists here and there, but some of those twists feel like they've been lifted directly from other games.

from gamespot.com

Overall it's a good game with moderate difficulty and if you've never played a fps before or you don't usually play fps games, Prey it's a good starting point because it has it all. Below are some screen shots but I'm not spoiling the end. (which is pretty sad btw)

some bla bla

So... what happened in my life lately? There was a storm a week ago or so and we didn't have power for a day and a night. It was horrible without power, I cannot describe it. It was like I was disabled. Friday was supposed to be the last day of school before the Christmas brake. I tried thursday night to check on nsd.org if we have school but the website was down. I woke at 5:30 in the morning (I usually wake up at 6) more sleepy than awake to check on the internet and when I pushed the power button of my PC nothing happened. I looked out on the window and I couldn't see a thing but dark. Although I didn't go to school it was such a boring day, dammit. I wrote this those days:

They say we don't have school through Sunday but I'm not going to school on Monday no matter what their decision will be. I just don't care... we have a break.
There was no school on Monday anyway. Here is a link to a not so lucky people that experienced the storm.

This is the flash drive that I bought for only $15 from CompUSA (after mail-in rebate). It's awesome to have two gigs at the keys. There are some things I don't like about it though: unlike the SanDisk flash drives this one has a small lid which I will probably lose it, it doesn't have any kind of software (which some say it's a good thing) and the light which indicates whether it's properly connected to the computer or not and which indicates when it's accessed by the computer is pretty weak.

I found this interesting thing on the net: mobile iPod charger that works with AA batteries. Hmm... maybe I'll get one in case we have another power outage. And one last thing: Girl, 13, charged as sex offender and victim.

Stones (people)

I felt really bad when wrote this so don't take it personally.

I'm so sick of everything. I hate people. Most of the people and most of the time. I rarely enjoy being in company of other people. All they care is their person and their interests. Every action they do is because they need something. They don't do anything without a precise target. They don't just do things, their parsimony
doesn't let them do even unimportant things like talking to somebody. It doesn't matter how boring is their life but they keep quiet like a stone. Ignorance. That's it. That's what I'm going to become. I care only about myself. If people try to talk to me I'm gonna be a rock. They can talk to me as long as they wish and I'll just listen and say nothing. If they try to hurt me they'll hurt themselves because am I rock. Life can be so boring. People act so weird. I'm gonna make their life even more boring while I enjoy their boringness. I can be happy without many things others would die. I think too much silence is stupid. Some retarded people think silence is the key of wisdom. Silence makes you look smart in a stupid manner. I'm not trying to be smart by being silent like a stone. I'm just sick of people. Everything that comes out of my mouth will be in my interest, I'm just doing like everybody else does. Silent idiots.

Life skill

Valuable lesson: Don't try to be cool while trying to be funny. It won't work. 99.9% you can't have both at the same time.

My anger...

Bored and tired

I'm so so so totally sick and tired of everything and I had a bad start of this week. I didn't update the blog because I didn't feel like. Right now I feel like blogging and I'm going to write whatever I want. Windows Vista is starting to annoy me because I had some problems with it. First and the most annoying thing is a stupid message about media center receiver which I couldn't get rid of . Second thing is that I can't play need for speed carbon demo :( and the third annoying thing is that the tv-tuner doesn't work anymore in media center. I think I'll go back to xp for a while... that's about the annoying Vista.

Here is a link to some amazing pictures which helps us understand how small we are and reminds me of some questions with no answer, but I don't want to talk about that. Because my old logitech headphones got broken I've got this great headphones, Sony MDR-V300. I love them because they have great bass and the sound is awesome and I think they'll last much more than the older ones. My original iPod headphones also got broken and I bought some cheap headphones, again sony, but this ones are really annoying because you have to hold it with your hand to clearly hear the music because they're bad positionated.

That's all for now.

Naked guy in Times Square, New York

Message from me to me

Remember to never eat again garlic from Garlic Jim's Famous Gourmet Pizza because my mouth will stink 2 days or more no matter how many times I brush my teeth. Jeez. What kind of garlic is that anyway?

Windows Vista RC2, build 5744

I finally decided to install Windows Vista RC2 because the DVD was starting to gain some dust. It doesn't have noticeable differences or important new features but it's more constant, it has less crashes and Firefox it's now working well!

We think the overall quality of this $399 Windows Vista Ultimate edition is not deserving of final release candidate status, and we expect to see at least one more interim build, or perhaps even another release candidate, soon.

That's what the cnet editors think which is not a bad thing but I don't think 5744 it's a really that bad build, as they make it look like. It has some unimportant bugs but the thing that really cracks me up is that there's no copy/paste and cut button in every window, above, next to Organize, Views and Burn. They also said that the installation took longer on the same computer, on mine seemed shorter than RC1 but maybe it was because I had a different activity, I listened to music.

Blogging

Do you live to blog or do you blog because you live? That's the question. The question for "real" bloggers. It must be really sad to live for blogging. Some people start doing that as soon as they get some traffic on their blog. They quickly add big ads to their blog and try to keep the blog alive. But what happens when they run out of ideas? I think they get crazy... because people read them only because of the news, fun or cool stuff, without that they're no one. I don't say I don't want to become a famous blogger but I think that would happen if I would look for new cool things to post on my blog 90% of my time, that's insane. Don't think that I write this because I just envyingly read some famous blogs, the "coolest" bloggers have no real life. Yeap.

Scroll

I hate when I try to scroll down a page and for some reason it doesn't. My eyes get ready for a fast scan on the page, but it doesn't happen, it's a weird sensation.

Cad în... Dileme

English

English can be so confusing. Let's see this example: "sea" vs "see". You can't tell what's the difference only by hearing it, unless it's in a context but there are many words like that. Another thing I noticed is that the pronun "you" is the same for one person or for more persons. That's really stupid and makes confusion. I know more problems like that but I can't remeber them right now and I found this opinion, wich is pretty old, but I mostly agree.

English sucks
Posted By: The Anglophobe

Funny, my grammar book tells me that American English and British English are identical. Only pronunciation and the spelling of a few words differ. And since when did the British suddenly become such good spellers? "Thames" pronounced "temz"? "Centre" has an "re" at the end but "computer" isn't spelled "computre" and "saucer" is definitely not spelled "saucre". The "gh" in "enough" is pronounced as an "f" and is silent in "through". "One" is pronounced the same as "won". "By" is pronounced the same as "buy" or "bi", unless it's at the end of the name of a town where it's pronounced like "be". You use "I" for representing the first person, but not "U" for the second. English spelling is irregular, non-phonetic, and totally awful, be it American or British, but at least the Americans attempted (and failed) to make English spelling a little more phonetic and regular.
